NASA appoints Robyn Gatens as acting director for International Space Station

Lueders took to her official Twitter handle to announce the former NASA’s Systems Maturation Team member’s new role at International Space station (ISS).

NASA, on August 31, anunced its new acting director of International station (ISS) at its official Hequarters. NASA’s associate ministrator for Human Exploration and Operations, Kathy Lueders, designated Robyn Gatens, a 35 year ISS Division and System Capability Leer for Environmental Control and Life Support Systems at NASA. Her appointment was effective August 25. Lueders took to her official Twitter handle to anunce former NASA’s Systems Maturation Team member’s new role at ncy. 

According to NASA’s press release, Gaten will le  strategy, policy, integration, and stakeholder engment for station program at ncy level. She started her NASA career in 1985 at Marshall Flight Center and held various leership positions, including Manr for Orion Crew Support and rmal Systems between 2009 and 2012. w, she will work closely with International Station Program Manr Joel Montalba at NASA’s Johnson Center in Houston. Gatens will provide technical vice at ISS, oversee program execution, and man risks.

Lueders said in press release, "Robyn has demonstrated her leership and strategic vision for International Station and our efforts to enable a robust low-Earth orbit ecomy, and I am confident she will continue to do so as acting director.”

Held multiple leership roles

Earlier, Gatens’ role at NASA involved strategic planning to ramp up ISS’ robust low-Earth orbit ecomy, for which, she shared responsibility with director for day-to-day manment. She carried out an external review of operations and manment of International Station US National Laboratory under Center for vancement of Science. She held a role as a systems capability chief and heed ncy-wide team of system-specific subject matter experts in environmental control, life support, and crew health and performance systems (ECLSS) department. As per NASA, Gatens also spearheed NASA’s vanced techlogies for future missions. She holds a Bachelor of Chemical Engineering degree from Georgia Institute of Techlogy. According to NASA, former director, Sam Scimemi, has also been appointed as a special assistant for ncy’s Human Exploration and Operations Mission Directorate.
