NASA offers 'Boarding pass' to people on their 'Mars 2020 mission', gets almost 8 million applications

Furthering the American dream of colonizing Mars soon, the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), on Sunday has offered to people to send names to the Space Agency as it sets course on its seven-month journey to Mars in 2020

Furthering the American dream of colonizing Mars soon, the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), on Sunday has offered to people to send names to the Space Agency as it sets course on its seven-month journey to Mars in 2020.

The 'Boarding pass' offered by NASA includes the aspirant's first and last name, their address and email id. In its application, NASA offers 'Frequent flyer points' claiming:
"Your email is used only to give you “Frequent Flyer” points and to allow you to send your name on future Mars missions."

As of Sunday, a whopping number of  7927998 people have sent their names to NASA.

NASA's MARS 2020 mission:

As explained by NASA, the  Mars 2020 rover is based on its predecessor 'Curiosity' which was launched in 2011. The car-sized rover which is about 10 feet long,  9 feet wide, and 7 feet tall weighs 1050 kgs, which is less than a compact car. NASA claims that the rover parts are similar to what any living creature would need to keep it "alive" and able to explore.

The official launch window of the mission is July 17- August 5, 2020, from the Cape Canaveral Air Force Station, Florida. The rover is expected to land on February 18, 2021, at Jezero Crater, Mars. The mission is expected to last for about 687 Earth days which is one Mars year.
