Avinash Sable reaches 3000m Steeplechase World Championship Finals

In another incredible performance, Avinash Sable became the third Indian to break his own national record and reach the finals of this edition's World Athletics Championship in Doha on Tuesday night. Avinash finished 7th in heat number 3 and 20th overall in the men's 3,000 meters Steeplechase. He clocked 8:25.23 but a successful appeal by India put him in the finals bracket. After two incidents of obstruction leading to his fall took place during the race, the Athletics Federation of India quickly got into the act and lodged a protest with the organisers. 

Incidents that made Avinash lose crucial time

In both the incidents, reigning junior world champion Takele Nigate of Ethiopia, running in front of Avinash, tripped and fell which forced Avinash to finish 7th in the third heat. In the first incident, Sable had to jump over another competitor as four-five athletes at the rear fell over each other. Midway during the race, Nigate bumped into an obstacle just in front of Sable. The Indian had to virtually climb up the obstacle as he was blocked by the Ethiopian, thereby losing crucial time. Sable then made an impressive recovery towards the end, but it was not enough for a place in the final on a track where he had won a silver in April in the Asian Championships with a time of 8:30.19.

Annu Rani's performance at IAAF WC

Earlier, Annu Rani had reached the finals of the women's javelin throw on Monday night and 4x400 meters Mixed Relay Team. The Mixed Relay Team had finished on an incredible 7th position in the finals on Sunday night. However, Annu Rani could not come up with a similar performance in women's javelin throw of Monday night. She finished on the 8th position in a field of 12 with a 61.12 meters distance in the women's javelin throw final. A night before Annu had created history by becoming the first Indian woman to reach the Javelin final surpassing her own national record with an effort of 62.43m.
