Despite Pakistan winning the toss, their captain Babar Azam struggled to establish momentum as India piled on an imposing total of 356-2. In response, Pakistan faltered continuously, eventually succumbing to a crushing 228-run defeat.
Harbhajan Singh conveyed his message to Sethi through his YouTube channel, stating, "I have a message for Najam Sethi. He had said that Team India are afraid of playing against Pakistan, I hope he saw the kind of performance that Team India put up, a record win. I hope he must have got his answer, so keep your boys ready for the next game."

Najam Sethi had previously accused the BCCI and ACC of attempting to secure a no-result match by shifting venues due to rain forecasts. Rain did indeed interrupt the game, but it ultimately concluded without the loss of any overs, dispelling any notions of foul play.

"CCI/ACC informed PCB today that they had decided to shift next India-Pak match from Colombo to Hambantota because of rain forecasts. Within one hour they changed their mind and announced Colombo as the venue. What’s going on? Is India afraid to play and lose to Pakistan ? Look at the rain forecast!" Sethi had said.
Harbhajan commented on Pakistan's performance, asserting that they appeared fatigued across all departments. He said, "From Pakistan's perspective, they got nothing out of this match except for getting tired. Bowling was too weak, even the state of the batting was same, very poor batting performance. No Pakistani batter showed that they had the ability to play against quality seam and swing bowling and score runs."

Pakistan, now with two points in the Asia Cup 2023 Super 4 stage, have one remaining match against Sri Lanka at the R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo. As injuries sideline pacers Haris Rauf and Naseem Shah, Shahnawaz Dahani and Zaman Khan have been called up as cover. The Pakistan team faces an uphill battle to resurrect their campaign and secure a spot in the tournament's final.
