IND vs SA LIVE: South Africa stay alive; courtesy Dean Elgar

The first India vs South Africa Test began on Wednesday in Visakhapatnam. Virat Kohli won the toss and chose to bat. In the first innings, India put on 502 for the loss of 7 wickets before Kohli chose to declare. India's batting was led by Mayank Agarwal's magical 215 and Rohit Sharma's 176. The Indian bowling began very well as by the end of Day 2, South Africa was at 39/3.

Dean Elgar and Faf du Plessis revive the innings

The South African batting looked very lacklustre on Day 2 as the except opener Dean Elgar, all other batsmen got out cheaply. Ravichandran Ashwin took two wickets, while Jadeja took one. On Friday morning, the match resumed with Dean Elgar and Temba Bavuma on the crease. Bavuma was dismissed at 18 by Ishant Sharma.

The Proteas captain, Faf du Plessis, came into bat with a huge responsibility on his shoulder. So far, he has delivered. Du Plessis is currently batting at 48* which is already his highest Test score in India as he beat out his previous best of 39. Elgar who started this morning on 27 is currently batting at 76*. The partnership between the two is 90*. Elgar has changed gears but has stayed careful about not being too expressive. The left-hander has currently hit eight boundaries and three sixes. South Africa are at 153/4 after 50 overs at lunch.

About Dean Elgar

The 32-year-old captained the Proteas in the Under-19 World Cup in 2006. Elgar can be considered a Test specialist as the man has played 56 Test matches for the Proteas contrasting to the eight ODIs he has played for the country. He has also played county cricket in England. He wears the number 64 shirt. Elgar's last Test for the Proteas was against Sri Lanka in February 2019. If Elgar gets a hundred in this match, it will be his 12th in Tests.
