England fast-bowler James Anderson sustained a calf injury on the opening day of the Ashes 2019 which prompted him to miss the remainder of the English home summer. The responsibility of leading the English pace attack then fell onto Stuart Broad who scalped 23 Australian wickets across five Test matches. He was well-supported by James Anderson’s replacement - Jofra Archer, who himself picked up 22 wickets. The right-arm swing bowler missed the drawn Ashes campaign which also turned out to be one of the most closely-fought series between two nations in recent memory.
