Jay Shah Named as the Top Contender for ICC Chairmanship, Could Replace the Incumbent Greg Barclay

After the current ICC Chairperson Greg Barclay announced that he would be stepping down from the position, reports from The Age note that BCCI Secretary Jay Shah will be the man who could succeed Barclay as the next chairperson of the International Cricket Council.

"India’s Jay Shah will take over as chair of the International Cricket Council after forcing the resignation of the incumbent Greg Barclay, amid a $US3 billion ($4.46 billion) dispute between the governing body and its major broadcast rights holder Star. Two sources with knowledge of discussions, speaking on condition of anonymity because negotiations are confidential, confirmed the move late on Tuesday night," the report mentioned.

The reported Jay Shah move could help the ICC solve the ongoing USD 3 Billion dispute with their major broadcasting partner, Star. They want to renegotiate the deal and reduce it to half, and this is where Jay Shah's influence could be the savior for the ICC.

There is no official confirmation from Jay Shah or the ICC at this point. The deadline to file for the position is set at August 27, 2024. Any further updates on the matter will be reported.
