Will KL Rahul and Shreyas Iyer play in Asia Cup 2023? Here's a conclusive update on it

As per a recent fitness update by the BCCI, KL Rahul and Shreyas Iyer are gaining fitness, however, there is no clear update on their availability for Asia Cup.

Indian cricket team players like KL Rahul, Shreyas Iyer, and Jasprit Bumrah are going through their rehabilitation period at the National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru. Bumrah has regained his fitness and will lead the team in the three-match T20I series against Ireland. Bumrah is expected to play in the Asia Cup 2023 whereas there is no solid official update related to Rahul and Iyer.

  • KL Rahul injured his thigh during the Indian Premier League 2023 and was ruled out of the tournament 
  • Shreyas Iyer sustained a back injury and has not featured in any international match since BGT 2023 series 
  • Both the players went through surgeries and are going through their rehab in NCA, Bengaluru

KL Rahul and Shreyas Iyer unlikely to play in Asia Cup 2023: Reports

Team India batsmen KL Rahul and Shreyas Iyer have resumed batting in the National Cricket Academy, Bengaluru, and are in the final stage of their rehabilitation. As per a recent medical update by the BCCI, both players have resumed batting in the nets and are going through various fitness drills. The medical team is satisfied with their progress and will increase their intensity in both skills and strength and conditioning in the coming weeks. 

However, as per a recent report by Cricbuzz, both players are not expected to get picked in the Indian cricket team for the Asia Cup 2023. The squad of the tournament is likely to get announced by the end of this week and the sources of the BCCI say that both the batters have not fully recovered from their injury and might not be picked for Asia's biggest cricket event.

Will KL Rahul and Shreyas Iyer return in the white ball series against Australia? 

Despite both the players sharing their fitness-related updates on social media, the board will not like to rush with the players. However, they remain the prime contenders to get picked in the ICC ODI World Cup 2023 and if they are able to make a complete recovery in such a scenario, they can be picked for the white ball ODI series against Australia just before the World Cup.
