Words might not be enough to define the brilliance Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma have delivered over the years for India. However, as every good thing eventually comes to an end, there is a striking realisation among the members of the cricket fraternity that both the stalwarts are in the twilight of their respective careers, especially in the T20 format. In line with the same, the T20 World Cup 2024 is touted as Rohit and Virat's last chance to lift a T20 trophy ahead of their potential retirement from the T20 setup. Paying heed to the assertion, former India cricketer Wasim Jaffer has laid out his views, and unfortunately, they are not different from the popular conjecture.

Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli to retire following T20 World Cup 2024

Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma are two of the leading run scorers in T20 cricket and will undisputedly go down as legends of the format. Both have featured in many T20 World Cups together, so much so that Rohit has been one and the only player left who has played in all the T20 World Cups. During the period, Virat Kohli has been adjudged with the Player of the Tournament twice in T20 World Cups (2014 and 2016) and as for Rohit Sharma, he was a part of the team that won the inaugural tournament in 2007. There is nothing left for the two to further achieve in the format and speculations are rife that the ongoing T20 World Cup could be the last of the stalwarts. What solidifies the stance is the opinion of experts and former cricketers. Joining the bracket is domestic legend, Wasim Jaffer.

According to Wasim Jaffer, Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma will give farewell to the T20 format following the conclusion of the T20 World Cup 2024.

“I think they both (Virat and Rohit) will retire from T20Is after the T20 World Cup. It is their call eventually and also the call of the selectors. While they will continue to play in the IPL, I believe we are seeing them for the last time in T20Is at the T20 World Cup,” Jaffer said on his YouTube channel.

While a new set of players are brimming with confidence to take over the helm from Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma, the impact these two have spread and the aura they have disseminated, it will be an almost impossible task to fill the shoes of these influential individuals whenever they call it a career.
