From a player previously judged a flop, Raphinha has evolved into a key player for FC Barcelona today, acting as the team captain. His extraordinary performance has made him the backbone of the squad, greatly helping them flourish this season. Barcelona has shown amazing form under his direction, ranking as a major player in Spain and other European events.
Barcelona legend Romario made a huge statement about club star Raphinha
Raphinha's exceptional achievements in the beginning of the 2024–25 season under coach Hansi Flick have earned him a lot of praise from Romario, the renowned former striker for Brazil and Barcelona. Romario thinks Raphinha not only ranks among the finest players in the world but also makes Brazil proud overall.
This season Raphinha has been in spectacular form, becoming among Barcelona's best players. With every game, the 27-year-old winger has shown value by helping the Catalan team to score 22 goals in only 17 outings.
Apart from his performance at his club, Raphinha has been essential for Brazil; he scored the lone goal in their 1-1 tie against Venezuela last week. Romario, who praised the Brazilian forward's recent exploits and underlined his value to both Barcelona and the national team, has obviously taken notice of his outstanding efforts on the club and international levels. Romario told Mundo Deportivo (via GOAL), he said:
“Barca now have a great team. They’ve won some good games and played well. I think we’ll be champions again this year,”
“Raphinha is one of the best players today. He is one of the best in the world. He does very well with the Barca shirt and he is also doing very well with the Brazilian shirt. Raphinha is a pride for all Brazilians, he will give us very special things in football.”
Estimated at €55 million, Raphinha moved from Leeds United to Barcelona in the summer of 2022. He has been a constant member of the Catalan team since signing, recording 32 goals and 35 assists in 104 games across all divisions. Though former Barcelona coach Xavi failed to make the most out of him, he has faired well under the German, Hansi Flick.
