Hawk Eye apologises for Aston Villa vs Sheffield 'goal' error; says first in 9000 matches

Sheffield United manager Chris Wilder, while speaking to Sky Sports after the match, said that it was very disappointing from the club's point of view

Hawk-Eye Invations apologized after its techlogy failed on Wednesday evening during a Premier League match, when seven of its cameras were blocked by 'goalkeeper, defender, and goalpost', resulting in system t detecting that ball had crossed line. firm issued a statement soon after match ended.

Hawk-Eye apologizes 

During Aston Villa's match against Sheffield United,  latter' midfielder Oliver rwood swung a dangerous free kick into six-yard box of Villa’s penalty area and ball was collected by backpedaling Villa goalkeeper Ørjan Nyland. However, Nyland was bundled over line and into sidenetting of goal by a teammate, with replays showing entire ball had crossed line.

Referee Michael Oliver didn’t award goal, though, despite celebrations of Sheffield United’s players that reverberated around stadium. Instead, official pointed to his watch, suggesting it hadn’t vibrated to signal that a goal had been awarded by Hawk-Eye.

"During first half of Aston Villa vs. Sheffield United match at Villa Park, re was a goal line incident where ball was carried over line by Aston Villa goalkeeper, . 25 Nyland. match officials did t receive a signal to watch r earpiece as per Goal Decision System (GDS) protocol. seven cameras located in stands around goal area were significantly occluded by goalkeeper, defender, and goalpost. Hawk-Eye unreservedly apologizes to Premier League, Sheffield United, and everyone affected by this incident," read firm's statement.
