Tottenham Hotspur have finally cut the chord on Mauricio Pochettino's managerial reign at the North London club on Tuesday. With the Lilywhites languishing at the 14th position in the Premier League table, Tottenham Hotspur and Mauricio Pochettino have parted ways after five years with the club. Pochettino's sacking comes at a questionable time, considering that the Argentinian still had three years left to run on his contract.

Mauricio Pochettino sacked: Twitter reacts to Tottenham manager's ouster

Mauricio Pochettino's departure was met with mixed reactions from Tottenham supporters online. Pochettino guided Tottenham Hotspur to four 'top four' finishes in the Premier League during his reign. Tottenham only managed to finish the Premier League season inside the top four on two occasions before his arrival. Interestingly, in the time that Mauricio Pochettino was the manager at Tottenham Hotspur, the club accumulated more Premier League points (382) than Arsenal (371) and Manchester United (368).

Latest reports in England strongly indicate that Portugal's Jose Mourinho remains a frontrunner for the Tottenham top job. The former Manchester United manager has been biding his time as a football pundit on Sky Sports ever since being sacked by Manchester United in December last year. Ironically, if Mourinho were to take over the managerial reigns at Tottenham Hotspur, he would be back at Old Trafford, albeit in the opposing dugout, when Tottenham face off against Manchester United next month.

Pochettino sacked: Twitter claims Pochettino punched above his weight

Fans across Twitter have voiced their opinion on Pochettino's sacking, stating that the Argentinian was a victim of his own success. Pochettino guided Tottenham to the Champions League final last season despite not making any signings in the transfer window. Pochettino's ouster could see a managerial merry-go-round of sorts. The Argentinian is likely to be in demand, with the likes of Bayern Munich, Real Madrid and Manchester United thought to be interested in his services.
