FIFA on its official website said that swooping curves of emblem represent undulations of desert dunes and unbroken loop depicts both number eight – a reminder of eight astonishing stadiums that will host matches – and infinity symbol, reflecting interconnected nature of event. Besides echoing shape of iconic FIFA World Cup Trophy, emblem’s central form takes inspiration from a traditional woollen shawl.
