'Need To Look At The Next Generation': Mercedes Team Principal Drops Massive Remark On Hamilton Snub

Mercedes boss Toto Wolff opened up on the reasons as to why Lewis Hamilton was not given a long-term contract at Mercedes.

Lewis Hamilton a few months ago announced that he will be moving to Italian giants Scuderia Ferrari after spending several years of his career at Mercedes. Lewis Hamilton with Mercedes won six Drivers Championship and also managed to equal the record of Michael Schumacher during his time driving for the Silver Arrows. Now that fairytale is coming to an end as from 2025 onwards, Lewis Hamilton will be driving for Scuderia Ferrari and Mercedes boss Toto Wolff has recently revealed the reason why Lewis Hamilton was not offered a long term contract at Mercedes.

“There’s a reason why we only signed a one-plus-one-year contract. We’re in a sport where cognitive sharpness is extremely important, and I believe everyone has a shelf life. So I need to look at the next generation. It’s the same in football. Managers like Sir Alex Ferguson or Pep Guardiola. They anticipated it in the performance of their top stars and brought in junior players that drove the team for the next years,” stated Mercedes boss Toto Wolff on why he did not offer Lewis Hamilton a long term contract with Mercedes. 

Lewis Hamilton Shares His Feelings On Ferrari Move 

Lewis Hamilton shared his feelings on why he is moving to Ferrari and how driving for Ferrari has been a childhood dream for the seven time World Champion.

“I feel like I’m ending a relationship that’s perfectly fine. We’re still in love. I haven’t lost faith in the team. I’m just leaving for myself. [Moving to Ferrari] has been a childhood dream. I think it’s probably the same for every kid who loves motorsport. You know? Driving the red car," Hamilton said as he shared his feelings on moving to Scuderia Ferrari. 

Hamilton's contract with Ferrari binds him to the team for three seasons.
