IOA blames NADA for dope test lab suspension, massive fight breaks out

The Indian Olympic Association on Friday lashed out at the National Anti-Doping Agency for the suspension of the country's only WADA-accredited laboratory.

Indian Olympic Association on Friday lashed out at National Anti-Doping ncy for suspension of country's only WA-accredited laboratory, saying NA's "mistakes" have jeopardised anti-doping programme here.

World Anti-Doping ncy (WA) suspended National Dope Testing Laboratory in Delhi for six months "due to n-conformities with International Standard for Laboratories (ISL)". NA can appeal suspension in next 21 days. NA can still carry on with sample collection (blood and urine) but will have to get m tested by a WA-accredited laboratory outside India.

NDTL h got WA accreditation back in 2008. "We will w have to pay in dollars inste of rupees. My only concern w is who will bear extra cost?" Indian Olympic Association President Narinder Batra told media.

" National Sports Federations (NSFs) are t in a position to bear extra cost. And why should we bear extra cost for NA's mistakes?" he asked. WA said suspension came after it's Laboratory Expert Group (LabEG) initiated disciplinary proceedings with regards to status of WA-accredited laboratories across globe.

IOA chief said a negligent NA sat on issue for a long time despite repeated reminders from WA.

"This issue has been going on internally for last year. WA has been pointing drawbacks in NDTL's testing methods but NA has failed to man its affairs," Batra said. NA Director General Navin Agarwal remained unavailable for comments despite repeated attempts to reach him by PTI.
