Conor McGregor vs Michael Chandler CANCELLED! Dana White announces replacement bout for UFC 303

The Conor McGregor vs Michael Chandler clash was something which has been anticipated for a long time. Both MMA stars have been going back and forth for a very long time and their fight was announced for UFC 303. The main event was nothing less than spectacular as the fight fans were ecstatic to witness the Irish striker's long-awaited return to the Octagon. However, some unfortunate news has emerged ahead of the clash as The Notorious One has pulled out of the fight against Chandler. A replacement fight has also been announced by UFC President Dana White.

Conor McGregor vs Michael Chandler fight scrapped! Dana White announces a replacement for UFC 303 main event

On the social media platform X (Formerly Twitter), UFC President Dana White revealed that due to an injury sustained by Conor McGregor, the Irish striker has pulled out of the UFC 303 main event against Michael Chandler. Instead, the main card will now be headlined by Alex Pereira and Jiri Prochazka. Conor McGregor's eagerly awaited comeback has officially been shelved, leaving the UFC unable to come up with a suitable replacement main event. With the UFC 303 pay-per-view scheduled for International Fight Week, a strong main event was imperative.

Alex Pereira and Jiri Prochazka have battled it out in the past in the UFC 295 card and featured in the main event. In that match, Pereira earned a second-round TKO in a competitive fight for the light heavyweight title. The end was an electrifying one which shocked the fans, and a re-match will be nothing less than fascinating.

Now that the McGorgor-Chandler clash for UFC 303 is cancelled, the MMA promotion will put the fight on a further date and possibly put the match into the August-September window, as per Ariel Helwani.

"The consensus seems to be that they want to announce it all + the new date for McGregor x Chandler. August or September has been discussed, and that would likely mean creating a new PPV dates those months (8/31 and 9/28) have been discussed. That part - which is massive in all this - hasn’t been finalized," Helwani tweeted on X.
