Sarita Devi to represent India at AIBA's Athlete Commission

Former women's world boxing champion Sarita Devi will be representing India at the inaugural AIBA Athletes Commission to bring about "reforms" in the sport.

Former women's world boxing champion and Arjuna awardee Sarita Devi will be representing India at inaugural AIBA Athletes Commission to bring about "reforms" and get sport back into Olympic fold. Sarita, who is currently an athlete representative in executive committee of Boxing Federation of India, is sole contender from Asian bloc. athletes’ commission is part of reforms that International Olympic Committee has recommended for AIBA, which has been stripped of right to conduct sport in 2020 Olympic Games due to alleged financial and administrative mismanment.

“If I am elected, it would be a huge responsibility. Yes, I am extremely happy and feel proud of being minated," eight-time Asian Championship medalist told Republic TV adding that she would do everything possible to get sport back to track.

She is set to be picked upposed as commission is supposed to feature one male and a female boxer from each of five regional confederations (Asia, Oceania, Europe, Americas, and Europe).
