Former women's world boxing champion and Arjuna awardee Sarita Devi will be representing India at the inaugural AIBA Athletes Commission to bring about "reforms" and get the sport back into the Olympic fold. Sarita, who is currently an athlete representative in the executive committee of the Boxing Federation of India, is the sole contender from the Asian bloc. The athletes’ commission is part of the reforms that the International Olympic Committee has recommended for AIBA, which has been stripped of the right to conduct the sport in the 2020 Olympic Games due to alleged financial and administrative mismanagement.

“If I am elected, it would be a huge responsibility. Yes, I am extremely happy and feel proud of being nominated," the eight-time Asian Championship medalist told Republic TV adding that she would do everything possible to get the sport back to track.
