Meghan Markle, the Duchess of Sussex made a surprise appearance in the ongoing Wimbledon championships to watch Serena Williams's match along with her peers, but came in for criticism for demanding full privacy in a public place like Wimbledon.
Sally Jones, a media consultant, stated that the Duchess' security team asked her not to or take any pictures of Markle, even though she sat in the same row as her.

Journalist Piers Morgan, the host of 'Good Morning America', expressed his frustration about this on his show, attacking the royal by saying, "If you want to be private, go back to America and live privately."
When, in return, the co-host Susanna Reid said that she was sympathetic over the royals' multiple requests for privacy, Piers's response was that in the Royal Box at Wimbledon where the World's cameras are behind their heads, no one can expect privacy. He added that she should figure out what she wants to be - public or private.

Sally Jones explained the entire scenario in a statement, wherein she said that while she was watching Williams in action on Court 1 at Wimbledon and was capturing the moment by taking pictures of the American star hit aces after aces, she was asked not to take photographs of the Duchess' since she is in her private capacity.

Another topic that triggered a debate was Markle's outfit for the day, which was jeans, a white jacket with a hat. Since, in the exclusive members' section (where she was sitting), there is a dress code that strictly bans wearing denim, her dress code was clearly violating the rules and regualtions. However the All England Club rebutted this by saying that she was "dressed perfectly" for the event.
