Rameshbabu Praggnanandhaa, the 18-year-old Indian chess prodigy, returned to India on Wednesday after an impressive stint in Europe. During his time there, he clinched the runner-up title in the FIDE World Cup and emerged victorious in the World Rapid Team Championship. As he arrived at Chennai airport, a large crowd gathered to give him a warm and enthusiastic welcome. The young grandmaster was met by officials from the state sports department who were there to receive him.

Praggnanandhaa issues first response after reaching India 

Gathered at Chennai airport, a multitude of supporters, including chess enthusiasts, welcomed the teenage sensation who had recently secured the World Cup silver medal in Baku. Praggnanandhaa's excitement was evident as he basked in the attention of the crowd.

On a celebratory note, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin and Minister for Youth Welfare and Sports Development Udhayanidhi Stalin extended their greetings to Praggnanandhaa and his family at their residence. Recognizing his breakthrough performance in the World Cup, Praggnanandhaa received a substantial prize of Rs 30 lakh along with a commemorative memento.

Praggnanandhaa's giant strides

In a remarkable feat, R Praggnanandhaa became the second Indian player, following in the footsteps of the legendary Viswanathan Anand, to advance to the final of the Chess World Cup. Although he faced a defeat in the final against the renowned Magnus Carlsen, Praggnanandhaa's heroic journey in Baku served as an inspiration to the entire nation.
