Walmart-owned Flipkart and Amazon have toger created more than 1.4 lakh job across India ahead of festive sales. Both Flipkart and Amazon have been prepping for ir annual festive sales, scheduled between September 29 and October 6. Amazon has created over 90,000 temporary jobs ahead of Great Indian Festival sale. Meanwhile, Flipkart has added 50,000 jobs ahead of its Big Billion Days sale. se jobs have been created across supply chain, last-mile connectivity and customer support. Amazon has created jobs across its fulfilment centres, sortation centres, delivery stations, customer service sites, partner fulfilment network, etc.

Meanwhile, Flipkart has increased its workforce across supply chain, logistics arm and customer support. Flipkart plans to have increased indirect jobs through seller network by 30 per cent over last year taking it to 6.5 lakh in run-up to its Big Billion Days sale, according to ti company statement. Similar to offline retail, e-commerce companies like Amazon, Flipkart and Paytm see a significant rise in sales during Dusshera and Diwali. September-vember period typically generates a majority of annual sales of e-commerce companies in India.

"This year, we have created opportunities for close to double number of seasonal associates compared to last festive season. se seasonal associates will augment our capabilities to serve our customers better and ensure faster deliveries across country," Amazon India Vice President (Customer Fulfilment) Akhil Saxena said.

Amazon has 15 customer service sites across 11 cities that offer support to customers with pre-and post-order customer services through e-mail, chat, social media and phone calls in Kannada, English, Hindi, Tamil and Telugu. Amazon has also ramped up capacity of its warehouses to more than 26 million cubic feet of stor for sellers inventory this year. Amazon has doubled presence of its delivery service partner network with more than 1,400 delivery stations present across 750 cities.

Amazon has created seasonal positions in cities like Mumbai, Delhi, Hyderabad, Chennai, Bengaluru, Ahmedabad and Pune, along with indirect opportunities through its fulfilment partner networks such as its trucking partners and packaging vendors. Flipkart is increasing its workforce in supply chain including handling hand-held devices, PoS (point of sale) machines, scanners, various mobile applications and ERPs (enterprise resource planning), in addition to customer service, delivery and installation. Flipkart said it would significantly push local employment and ecomy.

"At Flipkart, however, our aim is to benefit entire ecosystem with our initiatives and that is exactly what our Big Billion Days aims to do. With new employment opportunities across geographies and prospect of scaling sellers' businesses, we aim to stimulate local industries and foster creation of a robust ecomy," Flipkart Group CEO Kalyan Krishnamurthy said.
