What Facebook has called “building future” of augmented reality (AR) and virtual reality (VR), is unveiling of new AR glasses that can amplify what wearer wants to hear even in a isy environment. Releasing details of insides of Facebook Reality Labs Research, California-based company elaborated on “perpetual superpowers” that are AR systems figuring out what an individual is trying to hear and n magnify it to dampen background voices.

Facebook’s AR glasses are combined with spatial audio features and create aural equivalent of a hologram overlay. This anuncement by tech arm of company came after it was kwn that Facebook was pursuing high-quality virtual sound for several years mainly through its Oculus virtual reality headsets. most latest research of Facebook Reality Labs is focussed on augmented reality applications. To explain furr, company has given an example, “imagine being able to hold a conversation in a crowded restaurant or bar without having to raise your voice to be heard or straining to understand what ors are saying”.

Facebook said, “ audio team at Facebook Reality Labs Research is working on vel techlogies to enable both audio presence and perceptual superpowers, letting us hear better in isy environments with our future AR glasses.”

How would AR glasses do it?

As per company’s blog, AR glasses would be able to amplify sound that individual needs to hear by picking up audio with microphones, using contextual clues to gauge between important and n-important sounds and n feeding accordingly through a ise-cancelling earpiece. Conversely, if person using se glasses is on a phone or video call, improved spatial sound could project sounds of participants or or audio to specific parts of room, enhancing sense of people actually sharing a or “audio presence”. 

“ mission of team is twofold: to create virtual sounds that are perceptually indistinguishable from reality and to redefine human hearing,” it said.
