Telangana’s Temple Has Caught Attention Of Netizens; Aditi Weds Siddharth
The best time to visit the Sri Ranganayakaswamy Temple is from October to May when the weather is pleasant.
Actors Siddharth and Aditi Rao Hydari have officially tied the knot at the historic Sri Ranganayakaswamy Temple, located in Srirangapur, Wanaparthy, Telangana. The wedding was an intimate affair at the 400-year-old temple, which holds special significance to the actress' family. Earlier this year, Aditi shared with Vogue, “The wedding will be centred around a 400-year-old temple in Wanaparthy that is of significance to my family."
The history of Sri Ranganayakaswamy Temple
Located about a 3-hour drive from Hyderabad, the Sri Ranganayakaswamy Temple was constructed during the 18th century A.D. and is a magnificent example of Vijayanagar architecture.
“According to legend, Krishnadevaraya, the Vijayanagar ruler, went to Srirangam and was enthralled by the Sri Ranganayakaswamy Temple there. He desired to construct a Ranganayakaswamy temple in his kingdom. Later, Ranganayaka (Lord Vishnu) appeared in a dream and told the king that his idol was lying in the kingdom and an eagle would direct him to that place. On the succeeding day, Krishnadevaraya followed the eagle and found the Lord’s idol between Kothakota and Kanvayapally mountains. The king constructed the Sri Ranganayakaswamy Temple near Ratna Pushkarini Lake. The temple is a classic example of Vijayanagar architecture. The temple was built by the Rajas of Wanaparthi Samsthanam on the bund of Ratna Pushpakarini Lake,” states the Sri Ranganayakaswamy Temple website.
Today, it is one of the largest functioning Hindu temples in the world and is known for hosting more than 300 weddings annually, primarily for villagers from nearby mandals.
A popular tourist destination
The Sri Ranganayakaswamy Temple has also become a major tourist attraction due to its historical importance and beautiful architecture. The temple attracts large crowds, especially during major festivals like Navaratri, Sankranthi, and Rathotsavam. On some days, the tourist flow exceeds 20,000 people.
When to visit
The best time to visit the temple is from October to May when the weather is pleasant. The temple is open to devotees and tourists from 6:00 am to 1:00 pm and 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm.
