119 Afghans evacuated from Afghanistan reach Greece, provided temporary shelter

Since Taliban takeover, international community has come forward in evacuating citizens from Afghanistan and also providing m shelter in ir own countries. In a significant development, Afghans who were facing risk from Taliban h been evacuated on a special flight to ssaloniki in Greece, according to AP. More than 100 Afghans were given temporary shelter in Greece on Monday, 23 November.
Greek officials have informed that 119 people were safely taken out from war-torn nation. officials furr revealed that Afghanistan’s former minister of borders and tribal affairs, Mohibullah Samim, was among people who were on board flight. Furrmore, passengers included a lawyer who h taken legal action against suspected Taliban fighters, women’s rights activists and a female judge. Afghans have been allowed to live in Greece till time y would be able to travel to or countries, including United States and Cana.

Afghans allowed to travel to Greece
Reportedly, Greek authorities have also allowed a group of female Afghan judges and former members of parliament along with ir families to travel to Greece. Earlier in October, Greece authorities h agreed to give shelter to a group of 35 Afghan human rights workers along with ir families after ir short stay in North Macedonia, as per news agency. North Macedonia government h informed that 35 people h travelled from country to Greece.
Greece enhances security at its eastern border
In order to stop people from unlawfully entering country, Greece authorities have beefed up security at its eastern border. In October, authorities h decided to deploy 250 more officers on border fence along with 1,500 security personnel, as per AP report. government h also planned to recruit around 800 border guard personnel to staff airports and areas that were close to Greek-Turkish border. Reportedly, Greek authorities h been fearing a spike in unlawful entry of people to ir country due to Afghanistan, however, re have not been a large number of Afghan refugees who have tried to illegally enter Greece.
