China 'will actively consider joining' landmark free trade pact dumped by Trump: Jinping
President Xi Jinping said China will “favourably consider joining” the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP).

China will consider joining landmark 11 countries free tre pact (TPP) that slashes tariffs for Asia Pacific, Chinese President Xi Jinping said at 27th Asia-Pacific Ecomic Cooperation (APEC) Ecomic Leers' Meeting. US h formally withdrawn from deal in 2016 after newly elected US President Donald Trump cited tre agreement as “b for American jobs.” China is w seeking to be a part of transpacific tre alliance, a linchpin for Barack Obama’s ministration to counter China’s growth in Asia Pacific and influence global rules of commerce.
President Xi Jinping attended 27th Asia-Pacific Ecomic Cooperation (APEC) Ecomic Leers' Meeting via video conference upon invitation by Malaysian Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin. He signed Regional Comprehensive Ecomic Partnership (RCEP), a free tre pact with ASEAN nations, China, Australia, Japan, New Zealand, and South Korea as signatories.

In meeting, Xi said, that while China welcomes signing of Regional Comprehensive Ecomic Partnership (RCEP), it will “favourably consider joining” Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP). China took a le role in negotiations of RCEP tre pact which was abandoned by India in 2019. United States, meanwhile, never joined pact under leership of President Donald Trump as President Trump favoured United States-Mexico-Cana Agreement (USMCA) for rth American Free Tre. “USMCA is a great deal, solves many deficiencies and mistakes in NAFTA, greatly opens markets to our farmers and manufacturers, reduces tre barriers to US,” Trump said.

'Free tre' across Asia-Pacific region

Furr, he urged nations for free and predictable tre at challenging times of pandemic, ding, that Asia-Pacific region must uphold peace and stability, multilateralism, and shall foster an open world ecomy.

Meanwhile, Malaysian Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin said that countries must navigate region constructively to achieve a robust, inclusive, and sustainable ecomic recovery from global pandemic crisis that impacted tre and commerce. At 27th APEC Ecomic Leers' Meeting, countries laid down APEC Putrajaya Vision 2040 for regional integration, and an open, dynamic, resilient, and peaceful Asia-Pacific community by 2040.
