Coronavirus outbreak: Canada to evacuate its citizens from quarantined ship in Japan

The Canadian government has said on Feb 15 that it has chartered a plane to evacuate Canadians on board the cruise ship Diamond Princess quarantined in Japan.

Canian government has said on February 15 that it has chartered a plane to evacuate Canians on board cruise ship Diamond Princess quarantined off Japanese coast. Japanese authorities h quarantined cruise ship in Yokohama on February 4 after a previous passenger was tested positive for dely coronavirus. Canian government has stated that Diamond Princess which has nearly 3,700 passengers, includes 255 Canians. dely virus w has killed at least 1,665 in China and more than 68,500 have been infected in China. 

official statement furr said that decision was taken because of “extraordinary circumstances faced by passengers” on board ship and also to “lighten burden” on Japanese health-care system. Canian government is currently communicating with Carnival Cruise Lines and Japanese government to assist in repatriation.

According to website of Canian government, aircraft will bring passengers to Canian Forces Base Trenton from Japan where y will be assessed and n sent to NAV Cana Training Institute in Cornwall, Ontario to remain quarantined for two weeks. Furrmore, even before boarding Canian charter plane in Japan, passengers will be screened for symptoms and those who bear any symptoms of coronavirus will t be permitted to board flight.

“ Government of Cana will help Canians return home following outbreak of COVID-19 on  Diamond Princess. Our public health experts on ground will continue to assist Canians who are currently under quarantine in Japan or in hospital undergoing treatment,” said, Patty Hajdu, CanianMinister of Health.

US govt to evacuate its citizens

Meanwhile, US government is also set to evacuate all American citizens from Diamond Princess, cruise ship which quarantined on Japanese port since early February, US embassy in Japan said on Saturday. About 380 Americans are aboard ship which has been quarantined on Yokohama, a port city near Tokyo. A letter dressed to passengers, which was posted on US Embassy's official website re,

" aircraft will arrive in Japan on evening of February 16. Buses will move you and your belongings from ship to aircraft. Passengers will be screened for symptoms and we are working with our Japanese partners to ensure that any symptomatic passengers receive required care in Japan if y cant board flight. aircraft will land in United States at Travis Air Force Base in California. Some passengers will n continue onward to Lackland Air Force Base in Texas. We will provide information about your final destination prior to boarding plane. "
