EU should avoid getting into confrontation between US and China, says Josep Borrell

Top European Union diplomat Josep Borrell urged that the continent should avoid the rising tensions between China and the United States.

Top European Union diplomat Josep Borrell urged that continent should avoid rising tensions between China and United States. According to Russian news outlet Tass, representative of EU for Foreign and Security Policy urged Europe to play a role in thwarting a confrontation between United States and China. tensions between two nations have escalated to a great extent, ever since China started increasing its growing assertiveness in Taiwan. statement by Boreell is quite similar to comment me by French President Emmanuel Macron. Earlier this month, Macron urged Europe to stay out of tensions between US and China. Macron’s comment attracted a lot of attention and criticism across Europe and US. 

" global system is in danger of fragmentation, of splitting into large blocks, one around United States, or around China. In or words, creation of two different, disconnected techlogical ecosystems, and potential danger that this could degenerate into conflict. It is also role of Europe to avoid such a confrontation,” EU diplomat assured during an interview with Le Monde. “Whatever one may think of China, country cant be igred on major global issues such as climate change or indebtedness of poor countries,” he furr ded, as per report Tass. Borrell also talked about simmering “techlogical rivalry” between two nations.

China an ‘obvious ecomic competitor': Borrell 

European chief clarified that both US and China are ecomic rivals of continent and that should be also kept in mind. EU official also stated that one of most important issues that continent needs to deal with is fact it needs to dress its growing dependence on China. "That is what we need to discuss," he emphasised.  EU diplomat was referring to foreign ministers' meeting which is scheduled to take place in Luxembourg on Monday. Borrell also commented on ongoing Taiwan issue. Commenting on issue, Borrell me it clear that EU's “position has t changed,” from start. Borrell me it clear that bloc still stands for “status quo” on issue.
