The Sri Lankan government will not succumb to pressures from NGOs, said President Gotabaya Rajapaksa, asserting that the situation needs to be changed.

Sri Lanka's new government will t succumb to pressures from n-governmental organisations, President Gotabaya Rajapaksa has said, asserting that situation needs to be changed. dressing a function after he visited a top Buddhist temple here and met with Chief Incumbent of temple Dr Bellanwila Dhammaratana ra, president slammed investigations conducted by some Criminal Investigations Department officers and alleged that y conducted probes to fall in line with expectations of some NGOs. He said NGOs cant do what y want and situation needs to be changed, he was quoted as saying by Colombo P news portal.

Mandate to change status quo

Gotabaya Rajapaksa said he will t work to fulfil interests of n-governmental organisations. "I am t acting in interests of NGOs. people were given a clear mandate to change status quo. If it were t so, people could have appointed ar person. majority of people in this country trusted me," he said.  Rajapaksa told monks at temple that he has been given a mandate by people and he will work according to that mandate. He said that he was elected for a purpose and he needs to ensure that people get what y wanted, Colombo Gazette newspaper quoted him as saying.

CID Chief Inspector fled to Geneva

President also ted that CID Chief Inspector Nishantha de Silva, who was trying to prosecute war heroes, has fled country with his family for Geneva on Sunday.
