Libya: Government troops cause rebel Haftar led LNA force heavy losses
GNA has stated that it has made significant advances south of Tripoli as Haftar-backed forces suffer heavy losses in the conflict-ridden country of Libya

GNA military spokesperson, Muhamm Kanunu has said on September 9 that soldiers of Libyan Government of National Accord (GNA) have me significant vances in south of Libyan city of Tripoli. He furr ded that GNA have caused Libyan National Army (LNA) loyal to Field Marsha Khalifa Haftar heavy losses.
In August earlier this year, World h urged both sides to maintain ceasefire as a strike in Benghazi took lives of three United Nation employees.

" forces of Government of National Accord are making vances in all directions to south of Tripoli supported by Libyan Air Forces," spokesman said. He furr ding that troops loyal to Haftar suffered serious defeat.

World earlier h urged ceasefire
In August-early this year, United States, United Kingdom, France, Italy, and United Arab Emirates issued a joint declaration on situation of Libya. countries called on rival sides to call for a ceasefire. Furrmore, y called for an investigation into recent strike in Benghazi, which h resulted in killing of three United Nations employees.

Libya has been unable to function as a unified state after US-backed Islamic extremists overturned and killed Libyan leer Muammar Gdafi in 2011. Two rival governments have since n split country in half: Libyan National Army controls eastern side of nation and internationally recognized 'GNA' ministers western part of nation. Since early April this year, LNA has been occupied in an all-out attack to gain control over capital city of Tripoli.

Meanwhile, GNA has been waging a battle to prevent Haftar from seizing control of Libyan capital. Government of National Accord was formed under conditions of Libyan political agreement which was a UN-led initiative and was signed on 17 December 2015. accord has since largely been unsuccessful in making sure that it unifies Libya and has resulted in questioning of viability of Government of National Accord.
