Nigeria school attack: Hundreds of students missing in Katsina after gunmen's raid

Hundreds of students are feared to be missing after gunmen raided a school in Nigeria. The military had located gunmen's hideout & exchanged gunfire with them.

Hundreds of students are feared to be missing after gunmen raided a secondary school in rth-western Nigeria on December 11. According to BBC, witnesses informed that attackers arrived in motorbikes and started shooting into air, causing people to flee. y targeted Government Science Secondary School in Katsina state and on Saturday military said that y h located gunmen’s hideout in a forest and exchanged gunfire with m. 

While taking to Twitter, Nigerian President Muhammu Buhari also condemned attack and ordered school to carry out a full audit of students to find out how many are missing. President also charged security personnel to ensure that attackers are neutralised and that students get harmed or missing. Furr, Buhari has also directed reinforcement of security of all schools in line with safe schools' policy of ministration.

‘Search, rescue exercise still ongoing’

As per reports, parents who dashed to school to take ir children home were also asked to tify school authorities. While speaking to media outlet, residents living ear all-boys boarding school in Kankara area said that y heard gunfire at about 22:00 (GMT) on Friday and that attack lasted for over an hour. Furr, security personnel at school were able to repel some of attackers before police reinforcement arrived. 

Nigerian police informed that during a change of fire, some of gunmen were forced to retreat and students were able to scale fence of school and run to safety. Around 200 students who h fled were initially deemed to be missing, however, y later returned. Witnesses, however, said that y saw a number of students being taken away by attackers.
