bel Prize in Chemistry 2019 was jointly awarded to John B Goodeugh, M. Stanley Whittingham and Akira Yoshi “for development of lithium-ion batteries” on October 9. This was anunced two days after bel Prize in Physics was anunced for a Canian-American cosmologist along with two Swiss scientists. awards were presented by Göran K Hansson, Secretary-General of Royal Swedish Acemy of Sciences.
What are Lithium-ion batteries?
Lithium-ion batteries are presently most portable form for consumer electronics. y are used in mobile phones as well as laptops because of high energy per unit of mass. se batteries even have greater power to weight ratio along with high energy and ir performance remains unaffected with high temperature. Because of ir low self-discharge, a number of plug-in hybrid electric vehicles also use lithium-ion batteries. bel Prize is awarded to scientists who developed se batteries as according to organization, y have “revolutionized our lives”.
