Demonstrators staged a rally in Brussels on Friday to protest against the destruction of the Amazon rainforest which is endangering its indigenous people and will have long-term consequences for global climate change.

Activists gathered in front of the European Commission and the European Council buildings, to urge European leaders to take action in favour of the Amazon rainforest, by stopping the EU-Mercosur trade treaty negotiations and boycotting Brazilian products that are not respecting the environment.

"They (European leaders) can  set an example to Bolsonaro to boycott any import or export that comes from the Amazon forest because we know the it is destroying there," said Belgian climate activist Anuna De Wever at the protest.

This gathering is part of a number of demonstrations taking place in various countries to protect the Amazon forest and protest against climate change.
