Roman Reigns is arguably one of the most popular and important wrestlers in the history of WWE SmackDown. Born Leati Joseph "Joe" Anoaʻi, Roman Reigns is a three time WWE heavyweight champion and has held the Universal championship once. He is also a one-time United States champion, a one-time Intercontinental Champion, a one-time WWE Tag Team Champion with Seth Rollins, the 2015 Royal Rumble winner, and the 2014 Superstar of the Year. Dean Ambrose vs Roman Reigns vs Seth Rollins (Battleground 2016)
The first-ever Triple Threat Match in the year 2016 featured all members of The Shield. They put on a great match as it was loaded with plenty of history that the trio had with each other. This match was one of the most anticipated matches in WWE history by the fans at that time. The match saw Ambrose and Rollins teaming up on Reigns and delivering a double powerbomb on him. Ambrose eventually pinned Reigns to retain his title.
AJ Styles vs Roman Reigns (Extreme Rules 2016)
Roman Reigns and AJ Styles fought a touch fight at Payback 2016. This match featured interference by both The Club and The Usos near the end of this contest. AJ Styles was brought down when Roman Reigns hit a spear in mid air off of a phenomenal forearm attempt. Reigns pinned Styles to retin his title. After the match, AJ Styles popularity catapulted and he created a great niche for himself in the WWE. At the end of the match, Seth Rollins made a surprise return from injury to attack Reigns thus setting off a new storyline between the two.
