Moscow-appointed Governor of occupied Kherson asserts region to become part of Russia soon

The self-proclaimed governor, Volodymyr Saldo stated during a meeting with invading pro-Russian collaborators that Kherson will "soon become part" of Russia.

In latest development from Russia Ukraine war, Russian-appointed he of Ukraine's Kherson territory revealed that land would soon become a part of Russian Federation. self-proclaimed Kherson governor, Volodymyr Saldo stated during his first meeting with inving pro-Russian collaborators that Kherson will "soon become part" of Russia. After seizing control of sourn Ukrainian territory in early March, Russian soldiers h appointed de-facto governor Saldo in position, Moscow Times reported. 

Saldo furr wrote on official Telegram channel for area's Russian-appointed military-civilian government, “We are looking at Russian Federation as to our own country because it is under control of (Russian) Armed Forces and later will be transformed into a federal subject. We will become Kherson region of Russian Federation.,” according to Moscow Times report. In dition to this, Russian authorities have not confirmed that  annexation of captured territories of sourn Ukraine is approaching.

'Russia annexing  Kherson territory depends on local people's willingness'

Furrmore, earlier this month, Dmitry Peskov, a Kremlin spokesman, h clarified that wher Russia annexes territory depends on local people's willingness. On May 11, Dmitry Peskov told media that inhabitants of Kherson area must decide for mselves if territory would become part of Russia, however, as in case of Crimea, this issue must be carefully vetted, have a legal reason, and be legitimate, as per media reports.  

According to a Russian-installed official in Ukraine's Kherson area, territory's government would ask Russian President Vlimir Putin for annexation. Kirill Stremousov, deputy he of Russia-installed government in Kherson, told media on May 11 that re are no plans to form a self-proclaimed "Kherson People's Republic" similar to those in Ukraine's Donetsk and Luhansk areas. He did d, though, that plans are being me to urge Putin to annex it.

Early in conflict, Russia's greatest notable accomplishment was taking control of Kherson, sourn Ukrainian city, and much of surrounding territory. As per media reports, authorities in Ukraine think Russia plans to stage an independence referendum in area, similar to one conducted in eastern Donetsk and Luhansk territories in 2014. Moscow acknowledged self-proclaimed Donetsk and Luhansk republics two days before inving embattled Ukraine, using this as an excuse to send troops to its former Soviet neighbour.
