Taipei rally against violence in Myanmar

Dozens of people held a rally in Taipei on Sunday in support of civilians being persecuted in Myanmar by the military junta which took power two months ago.

Some participants performed on stage scenes of violence perpetrated by soldiers on protesters.

The rally was organized one day after more than 100 people were killed by security forces while protesting against the February 1 coup that ousted Aung San Suu Kyi's elected government.

The reported fatalities included several children under 16 years old.

People at the rally also sang a revolutionary anthem and shouted slogans in Burmese.

They also recited prayers led by monks and some children hit metallic cans, a traditional act to chase away bad spirits.
