Tragic: Eight Indians killed as bus rams into signpost in Dubai

Update: The number of Indians who have died has risen to 12, the Consul General of India to Dubai has confirmed 

A fatal bus crash in Dubai on Friday led to the death of 17 people while leaving five others critically injured, as the vehicle travelling from Oman, rammed into a signboard. Tragically, eight Indians who were on board were confirmed dead by the Indian consulate in Dubai while seven others suffered injuries. 

Dubai Police said that the bus carrying 31 people overran a traffic signal near the Rashidiya exit on Thursday evening. Seventeen people of different nationalities were killed while five were critically injured, reported a local newspaper.

The Indian consulate in Dubai confirmed that eight Indians on board were killed in the fatal accident. Expressing its condolences, the consulate also put out the names of the deceased and contacted the family members of the same. 

 The Indians who lost their lives were identified by the consulate and their names were revealed on the official Consulate handle on Twitter. Rajagopalan, Feroz Khan Pathan,  Reshma Feroz Khan Pathan, Deepak Kumar, Jamaludeen Arakkaveettil, Kiran Johnny, Vasudev, Tilakram Jawahar Thakur lost their lives.

The bus company said that it has temporarily halted the services and would resume after investigations were through. 4 Indians were discharged from the hospital after receiving first aid and three others were being given treatment.
