Researchers in London have recently found out that deadly coronavirus which has w infected over 4.1 million people across world is “well adapted to humans”. After analysis of over five thousand strains of SARS-CoV-2 from at least 62 countries, scientists ted that virus is fairly stable but has gained some mutations including changes in geme that impacts ‘spike protein’ that is used by virus to infect human cells.
In a n-peer reviewed study led by London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine states that it still remains unclear how modifications in strain are affecting coronavirus. However, since se mutations have occurred independently in different countries, it is speculated that vel virus is benefitted by m. According to study, researchers have t yet determined if “y affect rapies or vaccines to combat virus or are making virus more aggressive”.

'Important implications' for vaccines
critical spike protein modifications are apparently a rare sight but professor of emerging infectious diseases and a senior author on study Martin Hibberd has stressed that recent discovery needs global surveillance of coronavirus so that more surprising changes are picked up faster. According to him, mutations can have "important implications" on vaccines, drugs and rapies that are being developed to tackle global health crisis.
Hibberd said, “Overall, virus does t seem to have mutated very much and most strains are relatively similar to each or. This suggests that virus is well adapted to humans and is t changing rapidly."
“However, while number of genetic variations at this st of pandemic were relatively small, we have seen a few that look important to virus and se could have important implications for diagstics, vaccines and rapies,” he added.
