Ukraine's President gave his take on the country's most significant moments of the year in a stylized video released hours before 2021.
Volodymyr Zelenskiy touched on several key events, including the downing of the Ukrainian jetliner in Iran, the coronavirus pandemic and the release of Ukrainian soldier Vitaly Markiv from Italy.
He also noted meetings with foreign leaders, including U.S. President-elect Joe Biden and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.
"There were tears of pain and tears of pride. It was something we were ashamed of and something we were proud of," he told a group of children at the presidential palace.
Zelenskiy also invited people in Donetsk, Luhansk and Crimea who follow Moscow time to "turn the clock back" and "be with us" for the New Year's celebrations.
"It's been almost an hour since you were told on TV that the New Year has come," he said.
"But I know it's been almost an hour since you've been waiting for us to celebrate the New Year together. As one family. As one citizenry. As one country."
