Top US infectious diseases expert Dr. Anthony Fauci revealed reason behind US government t vising people to wear masks at start of COVID-19 pandemic-- a heavy short of masks. While speaking to international media, Fauci stated that demand for masks was putting medical professionals at risk due to short. According to him, y did t want healthcare workers to be without equipment that y needed. 

Fauci furr ded that government w kws more about  effectiveness of different s of masks than it did when pandemic started. vising to wearing masks, he ded that while masks cant be 100 percent effective, it is better than t wearing one at all. During period from January to March,  Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) h actively discourd general public from wearing masks. Later, as cases became more serious, CDC h recommended wearing simple cloth coverings inste of surgical or N95 masks.

Meanwhile, US President Donald Trump has time and again stirred controversy by his strange remarks regarding COVID-19 outbreak and refusal of wearing masks. Earlier last month, he was spotted attending press conferences without a mask multiple times.
