COVID-19 new variant: WHO says in 'close contact' with UK to learn more about the virus
A new strain of coronavirus identified in the UK is up to 70% more infectious. WHO is in close contact with UK officials on the new Covid-19 virus variant

World Health Organization on Dec 19 anunced that it was in close contact with UK government to gain more information about new coronavirus variant. Taking to its official Twitter handle, organization wrote, "We’re in close contact with UK officials on new COVID19 virus variant. y’ll continue to share info and results of ir analysis and ongoing studies". Furr, WHO informed that it will update Member States and people as it learns more about this new mutated strand of SARS-C0V-2 that has been reported in parts of England.
Earlier, scientists in UK h warned Boris Johnson ministration that re was a new mutated geme of COVID-19 disease-causing virus which was more contagious and was spreing at a faster rate. This was followed by UK PM backtracking on his earlier anuncements related to Christmas rules, as he imposed stricter tier-4 restrictions in London and parts of England. "It is with a very heavy heart that I must tell you we cant continue with Christmas as planned," UK prime minister said during a press conference. " struggle against COVID is single biggest crisis world has faced in my lifetime," he ded. PM Johnson cited 'or European countries' while anuncing new sweeping measures to justify lockdown.

Tougher measures in Scotland
At conference, Johnson stressed that UK is, in fact, at a "perilous turning point" and has to act immediately. He warned that new guidelines could be in place for up to six months if people flouted restrictions and did t here to precaution. new strand of coronavirus was 70 per cent more communicable and it is w necessary more than ever to upgre three-tier restrictions system, Johnson said. UK's Liberal Democrat leers reportedly accused Johnson of acting too late, for being indecisive and igring warnings earlier. Separately, leers in Scotland and Wales introduced tougher measures. Scottish First Minister Nicola Sturgeon anunced at a presser that people were discourd from mixing with anybody outside ir own households. Travelling along with outsiders on cars and carpooling was banned, she said.
