The Hundred: Smriti Mandhana continues her sublime touch, races past Jemimah Rodrigues

Indian women's cricket team batter and vice-captain Smriti Mandhana achieved a lot of records while playing for Southern Brave against Welsh Fire.

Indian women's cricket team batter and vice-captain Smriti Mandhana is known for her attacking batting display and the records she has achieved in international cricket. Mandhana is currently representing Southern Brave in The Hundred Women's Competition and played an unbeaten knock of 70 runs off 42 balls against Welsh Fire. Mandhana also surpassed her Indian teammate Jemimah Rodrigues in many records.

Smriti Mandhana surpasses her teammate Jemimah Rodrigues' record

Smriti Mandhana became the first batter to complete 500 runs in the Women's Hundred competition she has now also scored five fifty-plus scores in the competition. Mandhana surpassed her Indian teammate Jemimah Rodrigues who stood in second place with four half-centuries. 

Smriti Mandhana was coming into the Women's Hundred Competition after a disappointing white ball series against Bangladesh. The Indian opener was also not able to perform in the Women's Premier League 2023 for Royal Challengers Bangalore and also performed averagely in the Women's T20 World Cup.

Welsh Fire defeat Southern Brave in a close contest 

If we get to the match, Welsh Fire while batting first in the match, put up a score of 165/3. Opener Hayley Mathews played a knock of 65 runs off 38 balls which included 13 fours. Chloe Tryon and Anya Shrubsole were amongst the wicket takers for Southern Brave and ended the innings with 1-1 wicket each.

Chasing the target, Southern Brave were given a solid start by openers Smriti Mandhana and Danni Wyatt. The duo added 96 runs for the first wicket and fell short of a 100-run opening partnership. However, no other batter was able to cope with Mandhana and each batter got out for scores of under ten runs. At last, Brave was not able to make 9 runs off the last five balls and ended up losing the match by 4 runs.
