Officials say that that biryani was being served at an election meeting, without permission which prompted authorities to lodge a police case, following which nine arrests were me.

election meeting was organised at residence of former MLA Maulana Jameel, who recently switched over to Congress, after being a close-aide to BSP supremo Mayawati, at Theda village under Kakroli police station on Saturday.
Biryani was to be served for lunch after meeting, but clashes erupted as those present re scrambled for first serving, officials said.

Police rushed to spot and dispersed violent mob.
A case has been lodged against 34 persons including Jameel and his son Naeem Ahm under various sections of IPC and for violation of model code of conduct, Circle Officer Ram Mohan Sharma said, ding that nine persons have been arrested so far in connection with incident.

He said security has been tightened in village and ditional forces have been deployed to check any furr violence. Jameel switched over to Congress from BSP last week. He was elected from Meerapur assembly constituency in 2012. Bijnor parliamentary seat consists of five assembly segments spreing across three districts of Western UP - Bijnor, Muzaffarnagar and Meerut.
Siddiqui is contending against BSP’s Malook Nagar and Bharatiya Janata Party’s sitting MP Bhartendra Singh.
