NMA withdraws heritage bye-laws Shree Jagannath Temple in Puri citing technical glitches
National Monuments Authority (NMA) on Monday withdrew draft heritage bye-laws for Shree Jagannath Temple and subsidiary shrines adducing tech glitches.

National Monuments Authority (NMA) on Monday withdrew draft herit bye-laws and subsidiary shrines for Shree Jagannath Temple in Puri ducing technical glitches. NMA also issued official statement regarding temporary withdrawal of bye-laws.
NMA statement
“ tice regarding public consultation for draft herit bye-laws of Shree Jagannath Temple in Puri and subsidiary shrines has been withdrawn due to some technical glitches. revised tice will be issued later," [Sic.] NMA said in a statement.

What are Herit bye-laws?
According to amendment in Ancient Monuments and Archaeological Sites & Remains Act 1958 in year 2010, central government is authority to national monuments. Under this act, Central Government plans development around 200 metre circumference of monument. It also takes care of matters relating to herit controls such a drain systems, ros, elevation, faces and service infrastructure. (Information taken from NMA website)
Impact of bye-laws on locals
After implementation of herit bye-laws, banners will t be allowed for more than three days during festival like Rathayatra. With this, prohibited area will be me free of plastic and squatters. Most importantly, officials of National Monument Authority are t required to consult district ministration and temple ministration or state government of Puri before issuing such a proposed act. However, this act is being opposed by local people as ir livelihood get affected.

Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik along with his MPs on Monday criticised se herit bye-laws after visiting deities at 12th century shrine. Patnaik said, “ Central Government should remove se new bye-laws. body can stop work of Lord Jagannath.” [Sic.]
