Yogi Adityanath issues 'kill terrorists on the spot' statement; P Chidambaram hits back with 'encounter killing' numbers

Former Home and Finance Minister P Chidambaram on Friday took on Yogi Adityanath over the 'encounter killings' in his state, a day after the Uttar Pradesh CM had said that the ISIS suspects who were nabbed in Maharashtra on Wednesday would have been shot dead on the spot had they reached the UP border.
Taking to Twitter, the senior Congress leader put out some numbers as he attacked Yogi following his controversial comments on the Maharashtra ATS' capture of terrorists.

On Wednesday, Maharashtra's ATS had detained a number of ISIS suspects. As per the sources, it was suspected that they were planning to launch a massive attack possibly in Kumbh, where the Kumbh mela is presently ongoing, by mixing chemicals in food and water.
Following this massive development, UP CM Yogi Adityanath lauded Maharashtra CM and the government for their efforts to counter terrorism in the country. It was during then that Yogi made the controversial remark that the suspects would have been shot dead at the Uttar Pradesh border.

"I was seeing yesterday, it was good that it happened (arrests of ISIS suspects). I want to thank Devendra ji that yesterday the Maharashtra ATS nabbed some terrorists who were conspiring to disturb the peace in Kumbh. If they were nabbed at the UP border, we would have killed them on the spot. We wouldn't have hesitated doing this with those who play with the national security. This is the demand of the day that demons should be given the treatment best fitted for them," he said.

The ATS caught the module before they could successfully make the poisonous mixture. Sources from the ATS suggested that a foreign handler was behind the module, and the agency is still probing if whether more people were involved.
