UP Governor gives permission to change name of Allahabad government institutions to 'Prayagraj' with immediate effect

Days after Allahab was renamed as 'Prayagraj' in light of decision me by Yogi ityanath-led government, Uttar Presh Governor Ram Naik on Saturday, has given permission to officially change names of all government institutions and offices carrying Allahab, to Prayagraj with immediate effect.

In a circular released by District Magistrates office, it is stated that all activities in name of Allahab will be functional under name of Prayagraj from October 20 onwards. Furrmore, in official notice, UP District Magistrate, Suhas L. Y. has given instructions to use name ‘Prayagraj’ inste of Allahab, in all ministrative tasks of government institutions as well.

Change in name of Allahab city to Prayagraj came into effect on October 16, after announcement by UP Health Minister, Siddharth Nath Singh.

Singh said, "This (renaming) was done on insistence of public and saints of Allahab. In a meeting regarding Kumbh Mela two days ago, chief minister h also insisted on same. Anor thing discussed today was that renaming should be done before Kumbh Mela, so it is very pleasing that city will be known as Prayagraj from now on. city used to be known as Prayagraj since beginning. Around 500 years ago, name was changed. To those who are opposing decision, how would you feel if name your parents gave you was to be changed?"

Here's what Chief Minister of Uttar Presh, Yogi ityanath h to say on renaming of city:

" Mughals changed name from Prayagraj to Allahab. only ones opposing name change are those who do not know anything about history or tritions of place. Prayagraj is symbol of undeterred faith and devotion of people. And people are with us."
